Over the past few months, Ford Authority spies have captured a number of 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor prototypes out driving around, while we’ve also reported on a number of exclusive details regarding the next-generation off-road-focused pickup. Now, we have another interesting factoid to share, as sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority that the 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor will be lighter than the current-gen model.
2021 Ford Ranger Raptor | 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor | + / – 2023 Ranger Raptor | |
---|---|---|---|
Length (inches) | 212.5 | 211 | -1.5 |
Width* (inches) | 85.8 | 85.8 | Equal |
Height (inches) | 73.7 | 73.7 | Equal |
Wheelbase (inches) | 126.8 | 128.7 | 1.9 |
Weight (pounds) | 5238 | 5163 | -75 |

The 2023 Ranger Raptor is 1.5 inches shorter than the current-gen model, though it has a wheelbase that’s 1.9 inches longer, which is also the case with non-Raptor Ranger models. Both pickups tout an identical height and width, but there is one big difference between the two – the next-generation Ranger Raptor is a full 75 pounds lighter than the current-gen model.
In addition to this weight loss, the 2023 Ranger Raptor will be powered by Ford’s 3.0L EcoBoost V6 – just like the Ford Bronco Raptor, as Ford Authority exclusively reported last year. Those two vehicles also share the Ford T6 Platform, and both were spied testing next to each other last month.
On the outside, the 2023 Ranger Raptor will share many of its styling cues with the next-gen Ranger – which was revealed in international market form last November. However, the Ranger Raptor will feature several unique features both inside and outside that will distinguish it from regular models, as Ford Authority exclusively reported earlier this month. Those include unique black wheels wrapped in beefy BFGoodrich tires, a “Ford” script grille, and Code Red accents, as well as a large infotainment screen inside the cabin.
The 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor will be unveiled on February 22nd, 2022. Known internally by the project name “Redback,” this next-generation off-roader will start out at $52,500, as Ford Authority exclusively reported early this month, and sources say it may launch in North America for the 2024 model year.
We’ll have more on the new Ranger Raptor very soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Ranger news and ongoing Ford news coverage.

Been trying to find the materials of fenders doors tailgate etc on a 2023 Ranger – living in a rust belt I will no longer purchase a steel bodied vehicle and don’t want a full size F150 – seems like all the hype is about the Raptor & the sales people in my area don’t have a clue
I called a ford dealer in Sydney Australia They claim aluminum doors hood fenders & tailgate – sure hope the usa models are the same –
I agree can’t find any info on the 2023 rangers I also live in an area that steel bodies rust out fast – every article seems to be about some off road Raptor that no one I know would want in northern Minnesota – & the trucks have gotten so big it’s ridiculous they need an non rusting alternative to the f 150 that is fuel efficient
The more important question – Is the tray the same size. i.e., will existing canopy’s and hard lids fit?
Apparently no one reads these articles
