The Ford Authority Take
As Ford Authority reported last October, Ford plans on launching a grand total of five electrified vehicles in Australia by 2024. These vehicles will include a plug-in hybrid variant of the next-generation 2023 Ford Ranger, as well as the Ford Escape PHEV and the Ford E-Transit. The other electrified offerings have been a mystery to this point, though Ford previously stated that those offerings would “be made up largely of battery electric vehicles.”
It makes perfect sense for the Ford Mustang Mach-E – which is already produced in right-hand drive form for the UK – to be sold in Australia as well, and these trademark filings would seem to indicate that this move is indeed imminent, though the automaker has yet to confirm it. In addition to North America and Europe, the Mach-E is also currently sold in China, where the EV crossover is produced by the 50:50 joint venture Changan Ford for the local market.
It’s unclear when the Ford Mustang Mach-E might actually launch in Australia, though it’s entirely possible that ongoing supply constraints including the chip shortage could impact that date significantly. FoMoCo currently plans to expand Mach-E production at the Ford Cuautitlan Assembly Plant in Mexico to 200,000 units per year by 2023.
