Modern Ford Lineup Gets New Usage-Based Insurance From State Farm

Usage-based insurance is nothing new in the world of automobiles, but it’s become more and more common. Ford has also partnered with a number of insurance companies in recent years to offer better rates through both traditional and usage-based insurance plans, including Allstate, VeriskNationwide, and Liberty Mutual, while a partnership with OCTO Telematics also aims to provide accurate auto insurance risk scores and in turn, more accurate pricing. Now, Ford is also teaming up with State Farm to offer a new usage-based insurance plan for owners of eligible 2020 model year and up Blue Oval vehicles, the automaker has announced.

The program – dubbed Drive Safe & Save – only applies to these newer FoMoCo vehicles that contain connected vehicle technology, and will roll out in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and Oregon for policies effective on or after Feb. 27th, 2022, to start. That initial slate of locations will be followed by a broader rollout across more states, excluding California, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Existing State Farm customers who own eligible Ford and Lincoln vehicles can simply opt-in if they wish to participate in the new UBI program and perhaps save some money on their insurance.

“Customers can better manage their car insurance premium because their rate will be more closely associated with their personal driving characteristics,” said State Farm SVP Property and Casualty Chris Schell. “Drive Safe & Save represents a significant auto discount opportunity, including an initial 10 percent participation discount off major coverages. Discounts average between 10 and 15 percent, with even higher discounts possible depending on individual driving behaviors.”

“Connected vehicles have the potential to deliver great benefits to Ford customers, including the ability to help lower their car insurance premiums through good driving behaviors,” said Alex Purdy, Director of Business Operations, Enterprise Connectivity, Ford Motor Company. “We’re excited about State Farm’s approach of using Ford’s built-in connectivity to offer Ford and Lincoln customers new ways to save money. This agreement further builds on our strong and long-standing relationship with State Farm to continue to deliver value for our mutual customers.”
