2022 Ford Maverick Recalled Over Trailer Brake Failure Issue

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2022 Ford Maverick models over an issue with the trailer brake controller. This recall also affects certain Ford F-Series models, as Ford Authority previously reported, as well as select 2022 Ford Expedition and 2022 Lincoln Navigator vehicles.

The defect: due to a software error, a towed trailer equipped with an electric or electric over hydraulic brake system may not brake.

The hazards: loss of trailer brake functionality could result in an extended stopping distance, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford Motor Company is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Components: trailer brake controller software.

Affected vehicles: select 2022 Ford Maverick models produced at the Ford Hermosillo Assembly Plant from February 3rd, 2021, to February 22nd, 2022.

Number of vehicles affected: 391,836 vehicles (all models)

The fix: dealers will update the integrated trailer brake control module software, free of charge.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin on April 8th, 2022.

They have not made 391,836 Mavericks to date. Probably only about 50K. Many did not have the 4K tow package either.

It says “all models,” as that number also includes affected F-Series, Navigator, and Expedition models as well.
