2023 Honda HR-V Debuts For U.S. As Upcoming Ford Bronco Sport Rival

While it launched in the shadow of the reborn sixth-generation Ford Bronco, the Ford Bronco Sport has seemingly found its own niche among shoppers who want something a bit less hardcore, yet still plenty capable off-road. Recently named one of the best crossovers on the market priced under $30k, the Bronco Sport posted its largest sales increase to date in Q4 of 2021, closing out the quarter with 26,965 units sold. However, the Honda HR-V is the current segment leader in its space after recording 31,692 sales in Q4, and now, the all-new U.S. spec 2023 Honda HR-V has been revealed.

The 2023 Honda HR-V has undergone a complete redesign compared to the outgoing model, and that much is clear from the exterior styling, which has changed significantly for the model’s second generation with LED lighting at both ends and a functional tailgate spoiler. The new HR-V also rides on a brand new platform derived from the 2022 Honda Civic, giving it a longer wheelbase, wider stance, and larger exterior dimensions to boot.

Outside of these photos and that little bit of information about the 2023 HR-V, Honda remains tight-lipped on the redesigned crossover, however. There are no pictures of the interior nor any other mechanical details to share, though it’s a safe bet that the inside will feature a host of updated tech features including a larger infotainment screen, which is also the case with the slightly different looking international market model.

Honda did say that the new HR-V “will feature a more responsive engine and a new independent rear suspension, giving the compact SUV a more confident, refined and fun-to-drive personality.” Since the crossover now shares a platform with the 11th generation Civic, it could also share powertrains, which means that it may possibly be offered with either the compact car’s 2.0L I-4 or turbocharged 1.5L powerplant, which produce 158 and 180 horsepower, respectively, along with a potential hybrid model.

More details should be available on the 2023 Honda HR-V soon as it’s expected to go on sale in the coming months, including pricing.

  1. I wouldn’t say this competes with the Bronco Sport – maybe the Ecosport which as you know is on the way out. FoMoCo needs a true product in this segment.

  2. I don’t see this the new CR-V as Bronco Sport competition. Maybe for now the Escape. When first seeing the redesign front to back. I thought i was looking at a redesigned Escape.
