In recent weeks, Ford Authority spies have spotted multiple 2024 Ford Mustang prototypes out driving around, including a likely base model, a possible GT variant making some pleasing V8 sounds, and a possible Mach 1 or higher-performance model. Those same spies also captured some shots of the S650’s interior, giving us a good look at its new flat-bottom steering wheel. More recently, we’ve seen the front end of both a base and potential GT next-gen Mustang completely uncovered via a pair of leaks as well.
Then, last week, a new heavily-camo’d 2024 Ford Mustang was spotted by Ford Authority spies that was believed to be a possible next-generation GT500 or Mach 1 mule. However, sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority that this 2024 Ford Mustang mule is actually an early mule for the regular GT, and that it is also the first example to boast a production front end.
Aside from its new front end, this mule is equipped with larger multi-spoke wheels, as well as a set of Brembo brakes peeking out from behind those big rollers. In the rear, a bigger diffuser is present, along with quad exhaust tips, signaling that this isn’t just some average rental car grade, base model pony car.
In terms of mechanicals, the next-gen Mustang won’t be available with any sort of all-wheel drive configuration, as Ford Authority exclusively reported earlier this month. However, two hybrid powertrain options could possibly be in the works – electrified versions of the Ford 2.3L I-4 EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 Coyote.
Previously expected to launch for the 2023 model year, the S650 will now reportedly enter production next year for the 2024 model year, a detail that was recently confirmed by Ford’s vehicle director for icons and Ford Performance, Ali Jammoul. The S650 Mustang will continue to be built at the Ford Flat Rock plant and is expected to have an eight-year life cycle, as Ford Authority reported last August.

So does that mean there will be a 2023 S550 before the 2024 S650, or will they skip the 2023 mustang?
i think 2023 will be the last year for the s550
Thank you for your reply. I was going to order a 2022 but missed the cut off. I was hoping there was going to be a 2023 model that I could order.
