Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator Recalled Over Trailer Brake Issue

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2022 Ford Expedition and 2022 Lincoln Navigator models over an issue with the trailer brake controller. This recall also affects certain select Ford F-Series models, as Ford Authority previously reported.

The defect: due to a software error, a towed trailer equipped with an electric or electric over hydraulic brake system may not brake.

The hazards: loss of trailer brake functionality could result in an extended stopping distance, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford Motor Company is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Components: trailer brake controller software.

Affected vehicles: select 2022 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models produced at the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant from April 15th, 2021, to February 10th, 2022.

Number of vehicles affected: 391,836 vehicles

The fix: dealers will update the integrated trailer brake control module software, free of charge.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin on April 8th, 2022.
