2022 Ford E-Transit Is Already A Leader In Its Admittedly Small Segment

While EVs have been around for a number of years now, the same cannot be said about EV vans. This relatively new segment is just getting off the proverbial ground following the launch of the 2022 Ford E-Transit and General Motors’ BrightDrop Zevo 400 and 600, with more competition on the way in the coming months. Regardless, it’s worth noting that the 2022 Ford E-Transit already has a big lead on the competition in terms of sales, according to Ford’s April sales report.

So far this year, Ford has sold a total of 1,575 E-Transits compared to just 42 units of “other commercial electric vans,” which could include BrightDrop’s offerings and Rivian’s EV van it’s building for Amazon. 2022 Ford E-Transit production began at FoMoCo’s Kansas City Assembly plant back in November and at the Otosan Assembly plant in Turkey last month, while U.S. deliveries kicked off in early February. The E-Transit also launched in Mexico back in March.

After securing 24,000 reservations for its new EV van, Ford has taken orders from a number of big names in the business world as well. That includes a total of 10,000 units from retail giant Walmart and around 300 other smaller operations and municipalities including the City of Orlando, a 750 unit order from Penske Truck Leasing (which also participated in a pilot test program for the E-Transit), and 41 vans destined for Frito Lay’s fleet in its hometown of Carrollton, Texas.

Ford just reported E-Transit sales for the very first time last month, as it moved 528 units in the month of March. Meanwhile, the new model should prove extra enticing to fleet customers in California, where the E-Transit recently became eligible for a $7,500 point-of-sale discount after it was approved for the state’s Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP) as a Class 2b vehicle.
