The refreshed 2022 Ford Expedition was revealed last September, introducing a host of updates and a couple of new variants to the long-running full-size SUV’s lineup. In the ensuring months, Ford Authority spies have spotted an XLT Max, Platinum Max, and a 2022 Expedition equipped with the Stealth Edition Package driving around. Now, those same spies have come across a 2022 Ford Expedition XL Max SSV, too.
The 2022 Ford Expedition XL Max SSV Package is sold under the 102A equipment group, which specs the big SUV for police duty. There are a number of unique features present on this particular model, including 17-inch steel wheels with 265/70R all-terrain tires, a ControlTrac with eLSD (a 3.73-geared electronic limited-slip differential), and skid plates for four-wheel drive models. On the inside, the 2022 Expedition SSV Package adds a column shifter, vinyl floor covering, and second row vinyl seats (there is no third row present).
The Expedition SSV touts a significant amount of cargo and passenger capacity thanks to its elongated wheelbase in Max form and a center-section seat delete, which makes room for the sort of equipment police officers need while out on the beat. The front-row bucket seats are finished in cloth, which is optional in the second row, while a series of storage bins takes the place of the traditional third-row seating. The Expedition Max SSV has a total of 16.9 cubic-feet of additional space for supplies and munitions compared to the regular-length model, too.
All Expeditions equipped with the SSV Package are powered by the twin-turbocharged Ford 3.5L V6 EcoBoost powerplant that produces 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque and is mated to the automaker’s 10-speed automatic transmission. Available in either rear- or four-wheel drive, the SUV is capable of towing up to 9,300 pounds.
The 2022 Ford Expedition fell in the middle of the pack in terms of sales in the mainstream full-size SUV segment last month, earning a 13 percent market share as the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, along with the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL continue to lead the proverbial pack.
