Nascar Ford Teams Post Mixed Results In Wild 2022 Coca-Cola 600: Video

The Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday, May 29th, 2022 was one for the history books. Several Overtime finishes pushed the limits of the scheduled 600-mile run, and at just over 618 miles and six hours of racing, it was the longest Nascar race in the sport’s history. Chaos was rampant throughout the event, and while a handful of the Nascar Ford teams made it out unscathed, others were not so lucky.

The first stage was the Chevy and Toyota show, with polesitter Denny Hamlin’s No. 11 Toyota TRD Camry out front for the first few laps. However, Daniel Suarez’s No. 99 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was a clear contender along with the No. 9 Camaro of Chase Elliott, as was the No. 22 Ford of Joey Logano. Logano’s No. 22 Mustang was up front for much of Stage 2 until he was passed by Suarez in the No. 99 Camaro. Meanwhile, Kevin Harvick’s No. 4 Mustang brushed the wall at one point, but was able to continue without incident thanks to the durable composite body of the new Next Gen race car. Ryan Blaney’s No. 12 Mustang met a similar fate, but he was able to continue – at least, until he spun out and torqued the suspension of his machine just a few laps later.

Logano remained near the front of the field as the laps wound down. Then, with 60 laps left on the board, Suarez’s No. 99 Camaro attempted to clear the No. 14 Mustang of Chase Briscoe, but the two made contact. Suarez spun and was struck by the No. 17 Ford Mustang of Chris Buescher, whose No. 17 Ford dug into the infield grass and went airborne, flipping several times. He was able to exit safely once safety crews turned his race car back over.

In the fourth and final stage of the race, the No. 14 Mustang of Briscoe set out after the No. 5 Camaro of Kyle Larson for the lead. However, his bid for the win was cut short as he dove a little too deep and snapped sideways, forcing a caution and the first attempt at Overtime. When the green flag dropped, Logano’s No. 22 made a charge for the lead, but he was swept into a multicar wreck as Austin Dillon’s No. 3 Camaro got sideways in front of the field and collected several frontrunners.

When it was all said and done, Kevin Harvick managed to pilot the No. 4 Mustang to a quiet third-place finish, followed by Chase Briscoe’s No. 14 Mustang in fourth. Hamlin drove his No. 11 Toyota to victory, followed closely by Kyle Busch’s No. 18 Toyota.
