The Ford Authority Take

As has become customary, Ford Brazil sales experienced yet another sharp decline in May. Last month’s results continue to deepen the brand’s negative performance in the Brazilian market, where it has already accumulated a total of (count em!) 29 consecutive months of contraction while falling to 14th place among the best-selling automotive brands.

In May, all models offered by Ford in Brazil lost a healthy amount of sales volume. Although the Ranger remains The Blue Oval’s best-selling nameplate, and is also the only model that’s made in the South American continent, the midsize pickup truck continues to be in the red, losing momentum offered by the Storm special edition.

Additionally, the new Ford Maverick also saw a drop in sales volume during May when compared to April, which was compact pickup’s first full month on sale in Brazil. It’s unclear whether or for how long Ford can sustain this level of sales performance in Brazil, while its cross-town rival, Chevrolet, is seeing a substantial amount of success in the country due to a very different business strategy.
