Hear The Stock 2021 Ford Edge ST Exhaust: Video

Recently, Ford Authority tested the 2021 Ford Edge ST, answering your questions in the process. During our testing, we were able to test out what the performance-oriented crossover sounds like on cold startup and while revving the peppy engine.

On a cold start, the exhaust thrum is quiet but with a healthy amount of raspy notes. To us, this is ideal for a family crossover like the Edge ST. When the accelerator pedal is pressed, the twin-turbocharged Ford 2.7L V6 EcoBoost engine sings. Listen closely and hear the high-pitched exhaust note as the turbo spools up in time with the RPMs. Overall, it’s an understated sound, but it’s fitting for the vehicle.

Speaking of the engine, the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 under the hood of the 2021 Ford Edge ST is tuned to produce 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, and it’s certainly no slouch. That engine bolts to The Blue Oval’s seven-speed automatic transmission, which is new for the 2021 model year, replacing the eight-speed unit used in the 2019 and 2020 model years. That engine and transmission combo makes for decent fuel economy, as the Edge ST is EPA rated at 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway for a combined 21 mpg rating.

“The 2021 Edge ST is quite an engaging vehicle to drive,” says Ford Authority Executive Editor, Alex Luft. “Stab the throttle, and the CUV accelerates with poise and purpose. It also sounds really good from within the cabin, no matter what the vehicle is doing to make it so.”

Alas, the Ford Edge will no longer be a part of The Blue Oval’s North American lineup after the 2023 model year, as Ford is expected to discontinue the model alongside its corporate cousin and CD4 platform mate, the Lincoln Nautilus.

Currently, the Ford Edge is assembled at the Ford Oakville plant in Ontario, Canada, but the facility will be retooled into an EV-only plant in the near future. At this time, it’s not clear if the Edge nameplate will be retired completely, or if it could potentially make a comeback as an electric vehicle.
