Over 2.9 Million Ford Vehicles Recalled Over Gear-Shifting Safety Defect

Ford Motor Company is recalling select Ford Escape, C-Max, Fusion, Transit Connect, and Ford Edge vehicles over a gear-shifting safety defect, according to Automotive News.

The defect: in affected vehicles, a damaged or missing bushing can prevent the transmission from shifting into the intended gear.

The hazards: if the transmission shifts into an unintended gear, is could cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford is aware of six reports alleging property damage from this defect, as well as 1,630 warranty reports.

Components: under hood and shift cable shift bushings.

Affected vehicles: select 2013-2019 Ford Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles.

Number of vehicles affected: 2.9 million

The fix: dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin June 27th, 2022.

How nice. Put it in drive and go backwards. Like everything else at FORD.
Years ago my company issued 1995 FORD E150 which was probably the best van I ever had in my long tenure. But the gear selector got bad to the point where I had to get out and push the van to get it to stay in or out of park until it finally broke. The memory isn’t clear but that’s about how bad it was in that I had to take those steps.

My point is that FORD has a long history of bad transmission selectors making operation difficult or impossible. Yes I did read it.

What about the shifting of 10 speed on 2018 f150 pickups it seems to have issues with lower shifting dealer said there is nothing they do about it I’ve talked other people with the same problem on their f150 2018 models

2020 Lincoln Corsair has trouble with a hesitation at light throttle from stop. Also clunks and lurched when auto shut off restarts engine when at a stoplight. I had it in to the dealer 3 times and they can’t find anything wrong. Who likes to drive a car like this? My friends when in the back seat joke that we were hit from behind when the car clunks and jerks forward at a stop!
