2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Powers ‘Thor: Love And Thunder’ Event

With its first full month of sales in the rear-view mirror, the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is already proving to be a rather useful tool for the lucky folks that have thus far taken delivery of the EV pickup. One of the more handy features present in the F-150 Lightning is its ability to charge other EVs and even entire homes, as we’ve seen happen at the hands of good samaritans and those looking to test these capabilities in recent weeks. This past weekend, FoMoCo showed off the charging capability of the Ford F-150 Lightning in yet another way by using one to power an early screening of the new movie Thor: Love and Thunder.

Ford partnered with Marvel Studios to conjure up what it calls the Summer Supercharged Ford Drive-In series, which kicked off with this particular screening of the latest Thor movie at at the Coyote Drive-In in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. There, roughly 1,000 people showed up to enjoy the very special viewing experience, which was all made possible by the Ford F-150 Lightning in attendance.

The EV pickup provided power for the entire event, including a corresponding arcade, marquee, and a performance put on by a local band. It was a truly high-tech show put on in a very traditional setting, as cars and drive-in movie theaters have recently begun to make a comeback following many years of proving to be an incredibly popular way to catch the latest big screen titles.

Needless to say, the guests in attendance came away impressed by the technological showcase. “I really like seeing all this in action. It was cool to experience this,” said  Dennis Simmons, Ford Intern and Howard University student. “I was really surprised by what Lightning can do. Guests were really impressed with the truck.”

This event is the first of three drive-in movie experiences that The Blue Oval plans to bring to local communities this summer, as upcoming installments of the Summer Supercharged – Ford Drive-In program taking place this month and in August will feature the Ford Maverick, Ford Bronco, and Ford Bronco Sport.
