2023 Ford Raptor R Teaser Briefly Shows Off ‘Scary Fast’ Pickup: Video

The Ford F-150 lineup will be gaining a few new variants for the 2023 model year, including the retro two-tone Heritage Edition and the entry-level off-road-focused Rattler. Regardless, the most exciting addition to the F-150 lineup – by a large margin – is the 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R, which marks the return of the V8 engine to that model for the first time since its first generation. As Ford Authority reported earlier this week, the 2023 Ford Raptor R will debut next Monday, July 18th, but the automaker is now teasing us yet again by giving us a quick look at the muscular truck in this teaser video.

The video kicks off by showing us a snake in the dark desert, which is startled by the sweet sounds of a V8 in the distance. We’re once again show a cactus on fire – an interesting prop used in Ford’s last teaser – before the 2023 Ford Raptor R goes flying by at high speed. We then get a few brief glimpses of the truck once again, including a shot of the illuminated front end, and the words “fast gets scary.”

The F-150 Raptor R should certainly live up to these promises thanks to the fact that it will be powered by the supercharged Ford 5.2L V8 Predator which is also present in the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. That powerplant will be mated to a fortified version of Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission, as Ford Authority reported last month. As a reminder, way back in June of 2019, Ford Authority was the first to report that the F-150 Raptor would once again be available with a V8 engine.

To date, Ford Authority spies have spotted a number of 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R prototypes driving around completely uncovered, including an Antimatter Blue example, a Code Orange pickup, and one finished in Area 51. The 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R – which was developed under the codename “Carnivore,” as Ford Authority previously reported – will look quite a bit like the regular F-150 Raptor, albeit with a few subtle differences. For starters, up front, the Raptor R features an “R” underneath the “D” in its “Ford” script grille.

Following a years-long wait, we’ll finally get to see the Raptor R in the flesh in just a couple of days, but in the meantime, enjoy the sweet sounds it makes in this short but interesting teaser video.

Love the creativity at Ford, but once again, don’t promise what you can’t deliver.
