2023 GMC Sierra AT4X AEV Edition Debuts As Ford F-150 Tremor Rival

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 was officially revealed last October as a refreshed rival to the Ford F-150, alongside its stablemate, the Chevy Silverado 1500. That refresh introduced a number of changes to the pickup, including revised styling, a brand new interior, and two new variants – the ultra-luxurious Sierra Denali Ultimate and the more off-road focused Sierra AT4X. Now, GM has revealed the 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X AEV Edition, which takes the AT4X a bit further in terms of capability, slotting in somewhere in between the F-150 Tremor and Raptor in that regard.

On the outside, the 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X AEV Edition deviates from the regular AT4X with new steel front and rear bumpers from American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). The new front unit gives the AEV Edition a better approach angle of 32.5 degrees, as well as space for a winch, while the rear bumper improves its departure angle to 23.4 degrees, while breakover angle also goes up a bit, to 23 degrees. The new front bumper makes room for a larger set of 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, which are wrapped around gloss black 18-inch AEV Salta wheels with recessed valve stems to protect them from rocks.

The AEV Edition features a slightly revised front fascia and grille, along with gloss black door handles, a black contrast tailgate, AEV badging inside and out, all-weather floor liners, and available off-road rocker panel protectors. Underneath the Sierra AT4X AEV Edition,  a total of five skid plates made from hot-stamped boron help protect it from the perils of off-roading, a material that GM says is 3.5 times stronger than cold-stamped steel.

In terms of powertrains, GM is once again rolling with the same naturally-aspirated 6.2L V8 available across the Sierra lineup, which produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, though it pales a bit in comparison to the F-150 Raptor and Ram TRX. Regardless, new AEV Edition is set to launch next year, though GM hasn’t announced pricing yet. Later on in the 2023 model year, it will also be adding these AEV enhancements to the regular AT4X, too.
