Ford Edge ST MRT EcoFlow Axle-Back Exhaust Sounds Fantastic: Video

Not too long ago, Ford Authority had the opportunity to test a 2021 Ford Edge ST, and we took some video of how the crossover’s stock exhaust sounded. The stock exhaust is not all that loud, which is to be expected from a family crossover, but the note is still more aggressive than non-ST Edge models. In fact, the Edge ST sounds better from within the vehicle that out. For those who may want a sportier rumble, aftermarket exhaust maker, MRT, offers a beefier exhaust that adds a little more rumble to the Edge ST.

According to its website

, MRT’s EcoFlow Axle-Back exhaust lends a “sporty, performance, fun exhaust presence for your driving pleasure” when installed on the Ford Edge ST. Cheekily, the company adds that its exhaust makes it so passengers and bystanders can “actually hear the engine!” The exhaust is composed of T304 Stainless Steel, made using 2.5-inch mandrel bent tubing with T304 Stainless Steel tips designed to match up with the factory faux tip package. It was designed to provide a “deep baritone exhaust presence” that embodies the sporty driving experience offered by the ST package. It’s compatible with 2019 through present Edge ST models.

The MRT aftermarket exhaust system for the Ford Edge ST certainly accomplishes what it’s designed to do. In a demo video released by the company, a Ford Edge ST trots down the road, showcasing its sportier exhaust note under heavy throttle. Its resonance can be heard inside the vehicle as well, letting the turbocharged Ford 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine shine through the road noise. The engine, notably, makes 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, so it’s certainly not short on power for its size, and MRT’s aftermarket exhaust system certainly gives it a little more bite.

For North American markets, the Ford Edge ST is assembled at the Ford Oakville plant in Ontario, Canada, but the facility will be retooled into an EV-only plant in the near future. At this time, it’s not clear if the Edge nameplate will be retired in the coming years, or if it will find a place on the liftgate of an electric vehicle.
