Here’s Why The Ford Mustang Mach-E Does Not Offer Ventilated Seats

The Ford Mustang Mach-E has made a significant impact when it comes to being a satisfying and well-liked vehicle, drawing in more and more early adopters each month. Gen X in particular is fond of the Mach-E, and it accrued yet another accolade when it was named one of the most satisfying vehicles the western U.S. and again last month as being one of the most satisfying vehicles overall. Ford CEO Jim Farley has taken notice of the Mach-E’s appeal, stating that the electric vehicle is “much better” than the ICE-powered Edge. However, despite all of this praise, the Mustang Mach-E lacks a significant feature: ventilated seats.

Ford Authority recently spoke with Darren Palmer, vice president of electric vehicle programs at Ford, to find out why this feature was omitted from the Mustang Mach-E. “So you have to make some choices,” he said. “The car is reasonably priced and the leather is aerated, and the car will be preconditioned so you don’t get in hot and have to cool. We just didn’t engineer vented seats in that car but if there’s enough demand we might do it,” Palmer explained at the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning drive event.

In other words, The Blue Oval just didn’t see a need to engineer ventilated seats into the Ford Mustang Mach-E, especially since the EV’s interior can be sufficiently cooled before occupants get in. However, this doesn’t take into account situations in which the vehicle may not be able to be preconditioned, especially if it is parked in a hot environment outside. The Mach-E also has a glass  roof, which can potentially compound the problem.

It’s worth noting that the Mustang Mach-E does offer heated seats as an option the Select trim level, and equips them as standard on California Route 1, Premium and GT trim levels.

Introducing ventilated seats may prove difficult for Ford now, considering that the Mustang Mach-E is no longer considered a profitable vehicle, thanks to the rising costs of materials. However, as production of the Mach-E ramps up by 2023, sufficient demand for the feature could prompt The Blue Oval to make it a reality, especially if they’ve received feedback about the feature’s exclusion from owners or potential customers.

  • The Edge has more feature, sells better, has more passenger room, rides better, can tow, more cargo space, large power moon roof, heated and ventilated seats, and costs less.

  • If the Mach-E is not considered profitable, that is on Ford management. Increase the price to make the Mach-E profitable. No profit for Ford eventually means no Ford Motor Company.

    • I'm sure they will for next year's model. They can't just arbitrarily raise the price on their existing pre-order contracts though.

  • Mustang, Mustang, Mustang, wasn't the thing originally unveiled as a Mach-E Mustang, not the other way around? Nauseating

  • What is the problem that the 2021 Corsair and Escape makes vibration noises at low speeds when the engine is hot.

  • Its been very disappointing that when Ford comes out with a new vehicle or redesign as they have done with the Explorer in 2020 and they do not finish the job. Then they seem to ignore it. It is frustrating how KIA and Hyundai has flown right passed Ford in design and quality. Every article gives the new KIA EV6 superior ratings over the Mach e. I have been a loyal Ford customer for since 1989 but they are going to lose me unless they improve their quality and drastically update interiors in the Ford vehicles. Stick on screens on the dash of the Explorer! and the vertical one is the worst. Signed a very disappointed Ford customer.

    • I was looking at a 2022 Explorer ST and the one thing I could not stand was that damn "I-Pad" stuck on the center of the dash... I ended up buying a 2022 GMC Acadia Denali AWD with the 3.6 V6. The infotainment screen is in the dash, and easy to operate. The fit and finish are excellent. I was also looking at the KIA Telluride and found the seating uncomfortable and the quality of the materials in the interior not as good as the GMC or the Ford Explorer ST.

  • No one cares about these EVs. Farley is running Ford into the ground at record pace. Lifelong Ford owners are abandoning Ford in droves because of him.

    • Facts. Already got me a Honda as a daily driver last year.

Haven't looked at Lincoln's since they killed sedans.

And my Taurus will likely get replaced with a Lexus

  • YEP, AS A FORD, MERCURY AND LINCOLN BUYER FOR MOST OF MY LIFE I AGREE FARLEY IS RUNNING FORD AND EVENTUALLY LINCOLN OUT OF BUSINESS !!!! And what will finish them is this EV craze costing them a fortune along with loosing customers that are being robed of the cost of owning !!!!!!!! Just wait till they see the cost of battery replacement and never enough working recharge stations ..............

    • @John Coviello, having no clue what you are talking about is NOT the same thing as making a valid point

    • Won’t need to know the cost of battery replacement for another 400,000 miles - 25 years or more. Why does that matter to you now? For a gas Mustang, you would need 2 engine and transmission rebuilds or replacements by then… and probably a catalytic converter or two, and several brake jobs, and how much does all that cost?

  • Darren Palmer what are you thinking! This is what has been holding me up all this time I want the ventilated seats. It's the only vehicle on the market that cost this much where you don't put it on?? That's got to be the stupidest idea of this expensive of a vehicle to not have VENTILATED SEATS when you even put it on an escape...DO NOT GET RID OF THE EDGE... Everything is fantastic about this car just make it a little more fancy and aerodynamic. This Marquee can be the Nautilus version of the edge. And no don't raise the price of electric cars lowered if you want people to buy or you're not going to get the volume

    • I added ventilated seat feature to my Mach E for under $100, it did not seem to affect my range a noticeable amount. Very nice on hot days. And, the roof reflects heat from the sun - amazing tech.

  • We have a Mach E California car. The child locks for back doors are on and we cannot find the way to unlock them. HELP!

    • Page 38 in the Owner’s Manual. It’s a button on the Driver’s window control:

“The control is on the driver door.
Press the control to switch the child safety locks on. Press the control again to switch them off. A light on the control illuminates when you switch them on.
The child lock setting remains on when you switch off your vehicle.”

  • Just say it FORD. Having the Ventilated Seats Consumes "BATTERY POWER" Which this Vehicle is Extremely Dependent Upon!!! And would SHORTEN It's Distance to the NEXT Charging Station to (FILL UP) "to 80%" Charge??????? Have Lunch while Waiting for the UNIT to CHARGE UP, and get in it and have ANXIETY ALL THE WAY TO THE NEXT CHARGING STATION???? "O" And besides that, It would Raise the Price of the (FAKE MUSTANG) also!
