2022 Ford F-53 Motorhome Chassis Recalled Over Steering Wheel Issue

Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for select 2022 Ford F-53 motorhome chassis due to a steering wheel issue.

The defect: in affected vehicles, the steering wheel attachment bolts may have been under torqued.

The hazards: steering wheels attachment bolts that were not properly torqued could become loose and back out of the joint, resulting in loss of steering wheel attachment to the steering column, thereby increasing the risk of losing steering control and being involved in a crash. A driver may notice a ticking or clicking noise from the steering column when the wheel is turned or notice that the steering wheel moves slightly as the bolt loosens.

Ford is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to this issue.

Components: steering wheel, steering wheel attachment bolts

Affected vehicles: select units of the 2022 Ford  F-53 Motorhome Stripped Chassis assembled between June 3rd, 2022 and July 15th, 2022.

The fix: dealers will replace the steering wheel attachment bolts with new bolts that will be torqued to specification. This procedure will be performed free of charge to the vehicle owner.

Owners should: contact Ford’s toll-free line or a preferred Ford or Lincoln dealer who can obtain specific information regarding the vehicles from the Ford On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) database. The Ford reference number for this recall is 22S50.

Can ford EVER produce a vehicle with the possible exception of the Mustang that doesn’t have to be recalled?

Apparently all the posters here have NEVER made a mistake? This recall is probably due to a malfunctioning air powered tool used to torque the assembly down. It happens.
