2023 Ford Bronco Sport Gains All-New Black Diamond Off-Road Package

Following its launch in 2020 for the 2021 model year, the Ford Bronco Sport has received a few minor tweaks, and the 2023 model year seems poised to continue that trend. As Ford Authority reported earlier this week, the 2023 Ford Bronco Sport could be gaining a Heritage model like its big brother, the Ford Bronco, one that adds some retro-inspired touches to the rugged, off-road-focused crossover. Now, sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority that the 2023 Ford Bronco Sport lineup will also gain an all-new Black Diamond Off-Road Package, too.

The 2023 Ford Bronco Sport Black Diamond Off-Road Package will be available as an option on Big Bend and Outer Banks trimmed models, must be paired with the Class II Trailer Tow Package, and includes underbody protection, a special graphics package, the same 17-inch Carbonized Gray-painted low gloss aluminum wheels that were previously only available on the Bronco Sport Badlands, and 225/65 R17 all-terrain Continental tires. These tires are similar to the ones present on the Bronco Sport Badlands, though that particular model is available with Falken Wildpeak rubber.

Currently, it’s unclear what this package’s underbody protection consists of, nor what the graphics package includes. It’s possible that the former will be similar or identical to what’s offered on the Badlands, which comes standard with four metal bash plates to protect its vital mechanical bits underneath.

The new Black Diamond Off-Road Package is a late availability item, meaning those interested in it may be waiting a while to take delivery. Most notably, and somewhat interestingly, the package shares a name with an existing trim level within the regular Bronco lineup – the Black Diamond – which also features underbody protection and some additional off-road-related features.

Why would anyone want just a class 2 trailer hitch??? Is that all the “Sport can handle?”

Yup, the Bronco Sport cannot tow much more than 2000 lbs

The Bronco Sport Badlands optional Falken Wildpeak AT tires are 235/65 R17. Badlands comes standard with 225/65R 17 Pirelli All-Terrain tires.
