It took some time for Lincoln to find its footing in China, but the luxury brand has enjoyed a surge in that country in recent months in spite of lagging behind some rivals in J.D. Power’s 2021 China Tech Experience Index (TXI) Study. Now, after the launch of the new, tech-focused Lincoln Zephyr, things are looking up for the luxury brand in China, as it shot all the way up to a third place ranking in this year’s TXI Study.
Lincoln finished with a score of 537 out of 1,000, which ranked it behind only Land Rover (543) and Cadillac (542), yet ahead of Mercedes-Benz (536), Jaguar (531), BMW (526), and the industry average of 523. That score also represents a big improvement over last year’s mark of 527, which earned it a fifth place finish and put it ever-so-slightly above the industry average of 524.
The J.D. Power China Tech Experience Index (TXI) Study focuses on new-vehicle owners’ perceptions of 29 advanced technologies and 13 basic technologies when first introduced in the market, and measures how effectively each brand brings those technologies to market. The index combines the level of adoption of new technologies for each brand with the excellence in execution, while the execution metric examines how much owners like the technologies and how many problems they experience while using them.
The 2022 version of this study is based on the responses of 35,277 new ICE vehicle owners who purchased their vehicle between June 2021 and March 2022, as well as 5,686 NEV owners who purchased their vehicle between September 2021 and March 2022. The study includes 247 ICE models from 56 brands and 65 NEV models from 36 brands. The study was fielded from December 2021 through May 2022 in 70 major cities across China.
