The Ford Authority Take

Ford Brazil sales experienced another sizable drop in August 2022, representing the second consecutive decline in monthly sales volume following the 48 percent tank recorded in July. The Blue Oval continues to lose share in the Brazilian market, finishing as the country’s 13th best-selling auto brand last month.

As in months past, Ford’s contraction in Brazil during August is due to yet another decline in sales volume of the best-selling Ford Ranger. The mid-size pickup lost 809 units compared to the same month in 2021 as a result of lower unit availability.

In contrast, the Ford Mustang was once again only Ford model that managed to post an uptick in sales volume during the month.

It’s worth noting that Ford has heavily restructured its operations in Brazil – South America’s biggest market – over the past few years. The changes are headlined by FoMoCo closing all of its three plants in the country that also saw the discontinuation of mainstream, high-volume models previously sold locally in Brazil and exported to other South American markets. The move means that Ford is no longer an automaker in Brazil, but rather a national sales company that imports models made in other markets.
