The Ford Authority Take
Ford has filed a host of patents related to externally-mounted accessories in recent months, including one for a combined climbing ladder and recovery board, a removable roof rack, a roof chair system, and an integrated roof rail power outlet system. Now, this new Ford patent explores a way for owners to mount those types of accessories using a variety of multi-purpose brackets.
As one might imagine, this Ford patent depicts an idea for ways to mount various types of accessories to a vehicle using different kinds of brackets, which also contain different types of mounting holes. One bracket depicted in the patent features two different types of mounting holes, which would allow owners to mount all sorts of accessories to their vehicles.
The patent also specifically mentions using these brackets to mount items within a vehicle’s cargo space, whether that be something like a luggage divider, grab handles, or virtually anything else. The whole point of such an item is to give owners flexibility when it comes to mounting accessories, as brackets tend to be specially made for one particular part or another – not multiple items, as is the case here.
As such, this multi-purpose bracket seems like a great idea, reducing the number of items a vehicle owner would need to buy if they want to mount accessories in or on their vehicle. It’s also a simple idea that wouldn’t take much in terms of resources to produce, making it quite viable for production.
