Though it has been out of production for years now, the Ford C-Max continues to rack up accolades, including landing a spot on Consumer Reports‘ Best Used Cars and SUVs for $15,000-$20,000, Best Used Cars for Teens Under $20,000, top Used Hybrid Sedans and Hatchbacks With the Best Fuel Economy, and The Most Satisfying Five-Year-Old Hybrids lists. Now, the awards continue to roll in – this time for the 2016 Ford C-Max, in particular – which has been named among the 10 Best Used Hybrids and Electric Cars Under $15,000 by Kelley Blue Book.
As KBB points out, those looking to save money at the gas pump still have some affordable choices in terms of used electrified vehicles, many of which can be purchased for $15,000 or less. In that regard, the 2016 Ford C-Max wound up making the cut for a variety of reasons aside from its bargain basement price tag.
For starters, the 2016 Ford C-Max offers excellent fuel economy, to the tune of as much as 41 miles-per-gallon in the city, 36 on the highway, and 39 combined, while also traveling up to 526 miles on a single tank of gas. The plug-in hybrid Energi model also provides up to 20 miles of electric-only driving range, making it an attractive option for those with shorter daily commutes.
Aside from its fantastic efficiency and value, the C-Max is also a superior option to its main competitor, the Toyota Prius, according to KBB. “At the time the Ford C-Max was on the market, it was seen as the most direct competitor for the Prius family of vehicles. However, the 2016 Ford C-Max Hybrid has a different attitude. It’s designed to be more fun to drive while offering fuel efficiency and a roomy, comfortable interior.”

The Enrrgi has an air cooled battery pack with an inept thermal regulatory system. Most owners degrade the usable 5.6kWh battery capacity without knowning it.
How? I have over 100k miles on mine, no degradation of battery in terms of miles electric only. What ate they doing that l am not? I have had three Cmax, 1 hybrid, 2 Energi PHEVs. Trouble free, zero maintenance besides regular checkups. Easy on tires, never needs brake pads, etc.
161,000 miles on my 2013 and counting! Best car I have owned.
Love my C-Max BUT it’s not being made any longer and parts are hard to find. I have a transmission issue being covered by warranty but can’t get it fixed which renders my car useless and unsellable. What’s Ford going to do for me???
What trans issues are covered after 8 years. Curious.
