Entering its second year of production, the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning remains in high demand and short supply, in spite of multiple recent price increases. Regardless, the EV pickup soldiers on into the new model year with a few changes in store for those that are able to purchase one, though those changes aren’t solely limited to new and/or additional features. In fact, sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority that the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning is now ditching its heated steering wheel.
Optional on XLT trimmed pickups and standard equipment on Lariat and Platinum trims, the heated steering wheel has now been removed from the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning due to supply constraints. Affected customers will receive a $50 reduction in the MSRP of the vehicle, which will be reflected on the window sticker, and must sign an acknowledgement form stating that they understand that their pickup is not equipped with the heated steering wheel at the time of delivery.
The heated steering wheel removal option – officially called Steering Wheel – Heat Removal (94X) Removal of Heated Steering Wheel – is mandatory on all new orders – including both scheduled and unscheduled orders – and has already been implemented. However, Ford will announce a Field Service Action in the future to restore heated steering wheel functionality, though it’s unclear at this time when that might be. Ford is making this temporary change in an effort to deliver customer vehicles more quickly.
In addition to this change, the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning has also received a substantial price increase across all trim levels, while the commercial-oriented Pro also received a second price increase recently. While the Pro is sold out for the 2023 model year, the XLT will be available to order again in an upcoming wave, while all Lightning reservation holders will reportedly be invited to order their vehicle by the summer of 2023.

Ford, like all the big three are taking advantage of their customers. Ford is raising prices faster than needed because they can! These price increases are nothing short of outrageous! I believe in a fair wage but high wages are going to cause workers to lose their jobs when it all falls apart. All the auto manufactures will be crying in a few years when their products are out of range of the average American and sales fall!
“Ford will announce a Field Service Action in the future” I need before I buy my jan/feb delivered F-150 lightning. A heated steering wheel in a EV is not to be overrated. I’d take that over a radio. take the “chips” out of that.
When will ford reinstate a recall for my heated steering wheel and mirrors. I’ve been waiting since December of 2022.
