Ford Transit Custom Snags Medium Van Of The Year Award

The UK publication Parkers has been handing out its latest automobile of the year awards for each category, and thus far, The Blue Oval has fared quite well, with the Ford Puma winning Small Family Car of the Year for the third year in a row and the E-Transit taking home Van of the Year honors as well. Now, the best-selling Ford Transit Custom has joined those other models by earning the title of Medium Van of the Year, fresh off a lineup expansion and being named Autocar‘s Most Practical Vehicle of 2021.

The Ford Transit Custom beat out the Volkswagen Transporter and Toyota Proace – the two runners up in this particular category – to take home Medium Van of the Year honors for a variety of reasons. Parkers notes that the Transit Custom quite literally ticks all the boxes shoppers expect in this category, including a large amount of cargo space, city-friendly exterior dimensions, affordability, and versatility.

This is the second time the Transit Custom has been bestowed with this particular award, once again winning over the staff at Parkers for its all-around excellence. “There is a phenomenal strength and breadth to the range, with an array of different sizes, engines and bodystyles to choose from,” the rag noted. “The Ford Transit Custom is the only van on the market with a conventional plug-in hybrid model. Add to this fact the comprehensive dealer network, the excellent driving experience and the high-quality cabin and it is easy to see why Ford sells so many of them.”

Overall, Parkers praised the Transit Custom for its comfort, driving experience, modern looks and features, technology, value, and payload ratings, with just a few quibbles to note – including a bouncy ride when the van is unloaded, though overall, it found few things to complain about.
