“Mystichrome” is perhaps one of the most intriguing and unique automotive paint options of all time, adding a chameleon-like surface to just over 1,000 units of the 2004 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra. The stunning color refracts a different color depending on the angle of the light it’s viewed in, incorporating teal, purple, blue, gold and copper hues for a pretty penny. Understandably, examples of the pony car wearing this particular color are rare, although occasionally they show up for auction. Another 2004 Mustang SVT in Mystichrome is currently searching for its next owner on Bring A Trailer.
This particular 2004 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra is even more special thanks to its drop-top. Out of the 1,010 Mustangs that were treated to the Mystichrome paint, just 495 of them were convertibles, making this vehicle a rarity. The Mystichrome theme is even found in the vehicle’s interior, with unique seat inserts set in black leather seats complete with embroidered Cobra insignias. There’s even a Mystichrome insert affixed to the steering wheel.
This unique Ford Mustang is powered by the automaker’s 4.6L V8 engine, which is rated at 390 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. That powerhouse is topped by a Roots-type supercharger, and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission with a limited slip differential. Sounds is piped through a Borla cat-back exhaust system.
The Mustang SVT is stopped by four-wheel disc brakes with Cobra-branded calipers in the front. It rides on an SVT-tuned suspension, which includes components such as linear-rate springs, gas-pressurized front struts and rear shocks, along with an independent rear suspension.
Just 6,000 miles are displayed on the odometer. Its history includes two owners and time in Georgia, South Carolina and New York, and it was originally purchased for $43,225. The auction will close on November 14th, 2022.
