With the popularity of off-road-focused vehicles soaring in recent years, Ford has responded by adding many of them to its own lineup. Aside from the range-topping Raptor models, that also includes more affordable packages such as its Tremor offerings and the new-for-2023 XL-based Ford F-150 Rattler, which gives consumers a budget-friendly way to get a more capable pickup from the factory. Now, sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority that the 2023 Ford Super Duty is also gaining a new XL Off-Road Package, too.
Though no photos of the 2023 Ford Super Duty XL Off-Road Package are available yet, we do know what it will add to the redesigned pickup in terms of features and equipment. On the outside, the Off-Road Package (17Z) includes a set of 33-inch off-road tires, as well as unique front air dams that improve the truck’s approach angle. Underneath, the optional package also includes water-fording vent tubes in the transfer case and axles, a rear electronic locking differential, and skid plates to help protect the fuel tank and transfer case.
The 2023 Ford Super Duty XL Off-Road Package is optional on XL-trimmed, single rear-wheel, four-wheel drive pickups, but is not available with the STX Appearance Package (17S), which Ford Authority recently spotted a new Super Duty equipped with and is also shown here. The XL Off-Road Package costs $995, though it can add as much as $4,225 to the price of the truck, if one starts with the most base model possible.
Those that want more capability from their new Super Duty can also opt for the Tremor Off-Road Package, which adds a front-end lift, unique 18-inch wheels, 35-inch Goodyear tires, a uniquely-tuned suspension, a Dana front axle with a limited-slip differential and axle vent tubes, Trail Turn Assist, and selectable drive modes including Rock Crawl. As Ford Authority exclusively reported last week, a Ford Super Duty Raptor hasn’t been completely ruled out, either.
