Quite a few custom Ford builds were highlighted at SEMA 2022 this year, though The Blue Oval itself didn’t show up to an official capacity. As electric vehicles become more commonplace, more and more of them are being customized and shown off, including a 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT that received the aftermarket treatment compliments of Tucci Hot Rods. A few Ford F-150 Lightning pickups also made their first-ever aftermarket appearance at the show, with this particular example being built by Real Truck and Motor City Solutions.
This Ford F-150 Lightning was designed to provide support to off-road racers while maintaining a high level of performance while it’s at it. It has an onboard air compressor for situations that call for it, along with off-road recovery boards and a fully mobile toolbox complete with welding equipment. Its Recaro seats keep its occupants comfortable over rough terrain, and it is equipped with a custom underbody skid plate to protect it from hazards.
Out back, this Ford F-150 Lightning has a Retrax bed cover with a rail system, crossbars and extra Raptor wheels to keep the truck moving in the event of a blowout. A flashy black and blue Kay Automotive graphics wrap, whose muse was borrowed from Bronco Desert Racer livery, makes it stand out against the sand.
While this particular F-150 Lightning represents the EV pickup’s first aftermarket appearance, the stock version comes outfitted with ample protection right from the factory. In fact, it’s equipped with front and rear skid plates to protect its fore and aft electric motors from rocks and other hazards. These components are positioned low in the frame, and would likely otherwise be susceptible to damage in treacherous environments.
