Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a car accident advisement system, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on April 28th, 2021, published on November 3rd, 2022, and assigned serial number 0351137.
The Ford Authority Take
Back in May, Ford filed a patent for an in-vehicle automated triage nurse system that’s like a more advanced version of the automaker’s existing 911 Assist system, which can automatically call for help if a vehicle is involved in an accident. The system would be capable of determining if a medical emergency was taking place within a vehicle while also gauging the type and severity of that event. The system would determine this by asking a series of questions via the vehicle’s audio system, whether it be brought on by an accident or some other type of trauma. From there, the system could provide medical advice such as first-aid instructions, or contact a first responder if there is no response or if the occupant requests it.
Now, this new Ford patent takes that concept a bit further by introducing an idea for a car accident advisement system that does precisely what it sounds like – provide advice to drivers that have been involved in an accident. The system would be able to determine the severity of an accident, along with other factors such as legal and insurance requirements in each specific state, before giving a recommendation.
Since these sorts of regulations aren’t always common knowledge and can differ greatly by geographical location, such a system could prove to be very useful for those that find themselves in an accident – particularly if they’re traveling through a state that they aren’t residents of. In that case, they could take appropriate action immediately after an accident occurs, which could improve traffic flow and potentially prevent additional accidents from happening as well.
