The Ford E-Transit has been both a critical and commercial success since its launch, racking up awards and maintaining its position atop the EV van segment for months now. As such, a number of commercial and government entities have placed orders for the E-Transit, including DHL, Seur and DPD, to name just a few, while AAA is also using the EV van to charge other electrified vehicles as part of its roadside assistance program, too. Now, the Ford E-Transit is being used to usher in a new era at Electric Avenue in Brixton, London, which was the first market street in the country to be lit with electric streetlights.
Vendors along Electric Avenue’s market community will get the chance to loan an E-Transit from Ford through 2023 as the businesses and local community work to go totally electric before the UK’s new ICE vehicle sales ban takes effect in 2030. This effort is being spearheaded by Levi Roots, a Brixton local, Electric Avenue regular, and Reggae Reggae Sauce creator, as well as Healthy Eaters and K & N Fresh Meat Ltd, each of which will be encouraging others to take test drives in the E-Transit at the market this week.
“As my business continues to grow, I’m always looking for ways to streamline my logistics and keep my business sustainable,” Roots said. “The Ford Transit van has been the backbone of market traders for decades, and now the E-Transit has allowed me to reduce my impact on the environment even more. The tools that Ford Pro can offer businesses like mine will really help us boom as consumers become more environmentally conscious.”
“Many of Electric Avenue’s local businesses have been serving customers for decades, spanning multiple generations, and probably with the support of a Transit,” said Mandy Dean, director, commercial vehicles, Ford of Britain and Ireland. “It is vital that these businesses continue to thrive as we shift towards an all-electric future together. Ford Pro is ready to support them every step of the way and is calling on councils and governments to get behind the switch too.”
