As Ford Authority reported yesterday, Ford Pro has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Deutsche Post DHL Group – the world’s leading logistics company – which is aimed at accelerating the deployment of electrified vans in the company’s worldwide operations. Ford Pro will supply DHL with 2,000 all-electric delivery vans by the end of 2023, which it will use across the globe for last-mile delivery, while the company will also have full access to Ford Pro’s comprehensive suite of connected E-Telematics software and charging solutions. However, in addition to this revised European fleet, DHL Express is also getting a shipment of Ford E-Transit vans for its Palo Alto, California-based operations, too.
DHL Express is set to take delivery of 45 new EV vans, which are expected to be in operation in and around Palo Alto by the end of the year. Over the next two years, the company plans on adding an additional 180 all-electric vans to this fleet – which already includes hybrid and EV units – as well as e-Cargo Cycles, as it aims to convert 60 percent of that lineup to EVs in the U.S. by 2030 and become carbon neutral by 2050. In total, DHL is investing $7 billion euros ($7.4 billion USD) to reach these goals.
“Sustainability is a significant part of our corporate roadmap, and these new electric vehicles enable us to contribute to clean air efforts in the San Francisco Bay Area, across the U.S., and ultimately, in many countries globally,” said DHL Express U.S. CEO Greg Hewitt. “This is the largest order of electric vehicles we have made in the U.S. thus far, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Ford in our ongoing effort to reduce the environmental impact of our fleet.”
“We’re proud that E-Transit represents such a vital part of the DHL Express fleet and their plan to reduce logistics-related emissions,” said Tim Baughman, Ford Pro general manager North America. “This collaboration is a great example of how companies can work together to achieve like-minded goals in sustainability today, while helping to create a better world for future generations.”
