As recently as 2020, the the Ford Fiesta and the Ford Transit Custom finished one and two on the UK’s best-selling vehicles list, but times are quickly changing. In 2021, the Ford Transit Custom took over the top spot as Britain’s best-selling vehicle, and it hasn’t looked back since. In fact, with the final numbers for 2022 in the books, the Ford Transit Custom was once again the UK’s best-selling vehicle, holding onto its title for another year.
Ford sold 42,762 Transit Custom models in the UK in 2022, which was more than double that of its closest competitor, giving the automaker 36.3 percent of the one-ton van segment. When combined with the sales of the passenger carrying variant – the Tourneo Custom – Ford holds a 39.8 percent share of the segment.
“We are so proud to see the Transit Custom crowned as the best-selling vehicle in the UK for the second consecutive year,” said Mandy Dean, Ford Pro lead for UK and Ireland. “This accolade is a testament to the tireless efforts and dedication of our team, as well as the loyalty of our customers. The Transit van serves as a vital tool for a variety of trades and professions and keeps Britain moving. With a wide range of body styles and configurations and with new all-electric versions added to the lineup, Ford is helping customers move into a more productive future whilst helping to meet their corporate sustainability commitments.”
While the Ford Transit Custom Range has expanded in recent years to include the more off-road capable Trail and Active variants, as well as the same rugged trims for the Transit Custom Nugget camper, the lineup is also set to add the brand new, all-electric E-Transit Custom this year, which is set to enter production in late 2023. Additionally, the next-generation ICE Transit Custom will make its debut in Europe this year, too.
