Maverick Thunder Trademark Filed In U.S.

Ford Motor Company has filed to trademark Maverick Thunder with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Ford Authority has learned

Filed on June 27th, 2022 and published on January 24th, 2023, this applications contains the goods and services description of “Motor vehicles, namely, automobiles, pick-up trucks, electric vehicles in the nature of automobiles, pick-up trucks, sport utility vehicles, and their structural parts.”

The Ford Authority Take

Last July, Ford filed to trademark Maverick Thunder, F-150 Thunder, and Ranger Thunder with the Canadian Intellectual Property office, and followed up that filing with another in Australia last month for Maverick Thunder. To date, Ford has not used the Thunder name on any package, series, or trim in North America, but previously offered the Ranger Thunder in European markets a few years ago.

The Ford Ranger Thunder debuted in 2020, roughly a year-and-a-half after Ford Authority reported that the automaker had filed to trademark that same term in Europe. That particular model was a limited-edition variant, with just 4,500 total units produced, and was intended to give a select number of customers an “edgier” look, for those looking for such a thing from their mid-size pickup.

The Ranger Thunder was only available in one exterior color – Sea Grey – and came equipped with a host of Ebony Black accents including its 18-inch alloy wheels, front grille, rear bumper, skid plates, fog light surrounds, bed-mounted roll bar, and door handles. There are contrasting red accents on the grille and roll bar, as well as three-dimensional “Thunder” badges on the driver and front passenger doors and tailgate, along with a matte-black Ranger logo.

Other notable features present on the Ranger Thunder include LED headlights and taillights with darkened bezels, a bedliner and Black Mountain Top powder-coated rolling tonneau cover, a load bay divider, Ebony leather seats with red Thunder embroidery, and matching stitching adorning the steering wheel, seats, instrument panel, and various other touch points throughout the cabin. Black floor mats are also standard, as are a set of red-illuminated sill plates.

It’s unclear if the Ford Maverick Thunder might share some of these unique touches, nor whether or not such a model will actually come to fruition. However, given the fact that a similar trademark has already led to a real-world product – coupled with the fact that Ford is continually adding new variants to its truck lineup – it certainly wouldn’t come as a surprise.

Why is Ford so busy making new “names” or “packages” for the Maverick when they can’t even fulfill the orders that they have? I ordered my Maverick XLT in September, and have heard a word about when it might be built. So frustrating!

Instead of making a bunch of different Mavericks, how about Ford filling the orders that some of us have been waiting 15 months for?

  3. Tom

Ford has now raised the price twice. Interest rates at banks around 6.2% credit unions 5.5%.
What was once a great deal is not so much anymore.
Though there is a sacrifice for fuel economy the prices are getting closer to a low end F 150.
There have been down the time bombs identified in this paper that will cost owners big bucks when they fail.
The market for the Bronco sport has dropped off yet they are still rolling off the line. The dealer who I ordered my Maverick from has over 100 Bronco Sports on the lot. Same goes for the high margin F-150.
Just get the truck built before I can no longer afford it.
