Back when the all-new, redesigned 2024 Ford Mustang was revealed last September, it did so with a brand new addition to the lineup as well – the Dark Horse, a range-topping, high-performance variant. At that time, FoMoCo provided quite a few details about the Dark Horse and the many performance and visual upgrades it offers over the GT. Earlier this week, Ford Authority revealed the MSRP of the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, and just yesterday, FoMoCo released a bevy of details related to the interior of the newest pony car. Now, we have even more information to share, this time pertaining the paint and stripe options available on the Dark Horse.
One of the most dazzling aspects of the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse is one of the brand new colors that it’s available in, a shade dubbed Blue Ember. Conjuring up memories of the famous Mystichrome paint that used to adorn the older New Edge Cobra, Blue Ember features special effect pigments of deep blues infused with a warm amber hue to give the paint color shifting capability when viewed from different types of lighting and angles.
To develop Blue Ember, the Ford Color Mastering team intermixed complementary colors, or harmonious colors, that are opposite to each other on the color wheel. Special effect pigments are used in a higher volume than other paints to enhance the color by reflecting light to create a striking amber highlight that looks different throughout the day.
Aside from this special new paint color, the Mustang Dark Horse is also available with two exclusive stripe options – either vinyl or painted. The vinyl stripes accentuate the raised center of the hood and the low gloss Tarnished Dark and gloss black finish, while opting for the Appearance Package nets buyers a specialized hood vinyl graphic as well.
As for the premium stripes, those are painted by hand using a specialized process that’s different from any other Mustang trim level. These special stripes feature a gloss black finish from the center of the grille through the hood extractor, over the roof and to the rear spoiler, while Tarnished Dark elements frame the center black stripe.
We’ll have more on the S650 Mustang soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Mustang news and ongoing Ford news coverage.

Not sure this question has been asked, but I will ask it anyway: Why is the torque on the 2024 Mustang GT the same as the 2024 Mustang Dark Horse at 418 lb-ft? The Mustang Dark Horse has 500 hp, the Mustang GT has 486 hp with the upgraded exhaust, so the extra 14 hp doesn’t translate into any extra torque? Seems like a waste of extra horsepower to me.
