The Equinox took home nine percent share, up two percentage points, while the Rogue captured eight percent share, down four percentage points. All other contenders, including the Bronco Sport, each claimed six percent or less.

The Ford Authority Take

Ford Bronco Sport sales suffered throughout the 2022 calendar year, a clear symptom of ongoing production constraints caused by global supplier issues. Some features are being withheld not only from the Bronco Sport, but from quite a few vehicles in Ford’s lineup. As of early January 2023, the 2023 Bronco Sport has now been given the Reduced Capacity Amplifier option, which customers must opt for when the regular amp is not available thanks to supplier constraints.

Wife test drove one of these this past weekend. I was hoping to get her into a Bronco, but she said they are too wide. So we tried the Bronco Sport. Wow, the Sport is a dreadful little vehicle.

I think Ford would rather you think about the Escape/Bronco Sport/Maverick in a combined way since they share a customer base, architecture, and plant space. Bronco Sport might be retreating a bit because it launched ahead of Bronco and there was some early demand to get in on the Bronco rush, but that has probably moderated with the presence of the real Bronco. I think Ford may have overestimated demand for Bronco Sport and under-estimated Maverick.

I agree with you too. Maverick fits a need that has almost no competition (for now). Bronco Sport has a long list of 16 competitors. That market is oversaturated, and the Sport needs to really stand out to be successful. More production resources should have gone to Maverick.

Maybe they should get their act together and it would be doing better. Ordered a new Sport, finally showed to dealer and it’s on hold by Ford because of the ABS module recall. Been multiple weeks, Ford not updating the dealer on any ETA for fix.

First new Ford, looks like I’ll be going back to GM.
