The Ford Maverick has earned a rather large number of accolades since its launch, a long list that includes a spot on Consumer Reports‘ recommended vehicles and 10 most satisfying vehicles lists, making Car and Driver‘s 2023 10Best list, winning a Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Award, and routinely ranking among the most considered electrified vehicles on sale. Now the Ford Maverick Hybrid is helping to expand the compact pickup’s trophy case once again after landing on Consumer Reports‘ list of the Top 10 Picks of 2023.
The Ford Maverick Hybrid and its nine cohorts on this particular list were chosen from a group of 200 new vehicles that were tested by the consumer organization, which considers multiple categories when making these decisions – including road-test performance, reliability, owner satisfaction, and safety. Each must also earn CR‘s recommended status, standing out as the “best-of-the-best” in the minds of the company and its members.
In that regard, the Ford Maverick Hybrid impressed for a number of reasons – including, of course, its affordable price tag and excellent fuel economy. Consumer Reports achieved 37 miles-per-gallon in combined driving during its testing phase, which rivals the most efficient economy cars out there, and also offers the utility of a bed, making it a suitable alternative to both sedans and compact crossovers.
On top of those attributes, Consumer Reports also praised the accessibility of the Maverick thanks to its low floor and large doors, as well as its roomy interior, simple controls, and an abundance of storage hooks inside. The organization found ride quality to be quite smooth for a pickup, with handling that’s far better as well. “For the price, you’d be hard-pressed to find something that is as versatile, efficient, and smile-inducing as the Maverick Hybrid,” CR concluded.

All the accolades are meaningless if you can’t buy one. I ordered in September and am told I am 1st on the list of Hybrids at my dealership. I still don’t have a build date. I am now considering a different manufacture and not going hybrid.
I think CR missed one accolade “longest wait time to deliver “18 months so far.
I’m waiting too Larry it SUCKS!!
That is so true. This is a company that can’t build in volume. Sure these are great trucks at a reasonable price but the only way to get one is to pay a markup that brings you into the the price of a Ranger. Just useless. I love what Ford is creating hate they can’t deliver.
great news from Consumer Reports. As a hopeful owner who ordered a 2022 Maverick Lariat on October 11, 2022 and not ever a note on production date OR SERIAL #, I wonder if I may get delivey in my life time
If you can wait long enough, you will get one. I ordered my Maverick hybrid October 2021 and it is finally on a train headed to my dealer. I should take delivery a little more than 16 months after original order
Hopefully it’s not on Norfolk Southern.
i am impressed on all the accolades the ford maverick is getting ,especially the hybrid. that being said its sad it is unobtanium, some have been waiting over a year to get one ,we are at 5 month with absolutely no word, just apologies on shortages and delays, and the trailer hitch shortage, really something as benign as a trailer hitch ,really, get it together ford ,signed disappointed
Ordered my XL hybrid on 9/17/22 and I’m still waiting amongst the myriad of excuses from Ford. A friend ordered a Toyota RAV4 Prime and she got her car in two months! If you can find a hybrid on a dealer’s lot, there is a 10k markup. I won’t wait forever!
LoL it’s easy to get vehicles that are not extremely popular.
How can maverick rack up all these different awards?? Had a 22 xlt ex boost never got. Reordered same truck in 9-15-22. Hybrid engine. Maybe I will get it by dec 20-2026 but it will be a 23. Ford has bad building policy. Sell truck oversees but you can t get them in America. Toyota is going to overtake ford if they don t change how they operate
Well, apparently they are evaluating and giving awards on the basis of what has been delivered.
Don’t lose hope, your day will come too!
if only that were the case “my day will come”. after waiting 10 months only to find my order cancelled due to total dealership incompetence and Ford couldn’t care less offering no resolution zero!! if Ford would give me a vehicle I’d burn it before I sat in it, I’d rather walk, Ford has to be the laughing stock of all the auto makers makes Yugo’s look like genius and anyone defending their position is a complete moron huh Robert?
So Tomasz, don’t hold back, tell us what you really think.
Great News, I ordered my 2023 Hybrid September 2022 and received an email 1-26-23 that the scheduled build date is the week of 3-20-23. Apparently Ford is working on their backlog of orders.
If you can wait long enough, you will get one. I ordered my XLT Maverick hybrid October 2021 and it is finally on a train (02/15/23) headed to my dealer as a 23 model. I should take delivery a little more than 16 months (2 Birthdays) after original order.
Anyone think Toyota will gear up and take all the market share away from Ford with a truck they can deliver? Its like ford is say please take our market away because we just can’t build them. Some big three auto maker. There stock reflects their inability to deliver.
I’m glad to hear all the good news. I ordered my Maverick truck from Ted Russell in Knoxville Tn. Placed order on 9/17/22 ford sent emails for order, production date, built date and ship date I received truck on January 15 2023 it’s a hybrid, lariat, luxury. I had no problems with getting it. I feel bad for the people that have had troubles with getting one.
How is it Don, happy? Worth the wait?
Got a 23 Mavrick Lariat Hybrid on order. First one ordered at my dealer in September. Haven’t heard anything on a build date yet but that’s ok. The 22 Mavrick Hybrid I have is doing Great. Sure I paid 4K over msrp for it but it’s worth it . Great little truck, great gas milage,37+ mpg, and fun to drive.
Ordered my XLT Lux hybrid 10/21 got it…1/23 (23 model of course)
Took forever but 3 weeks in and damn it’s great. 41 mpg so far. Live in LA so lots of all electric start and stop driving. Super comfortable drive. $28K with my add-ons. Looks great. Runs great. If/when they make a plug-in I will get in line again.
Ordered 2 in mid 2001 and had both delivered before June 2002.
Both loaded Hybrid Lariat. Love my Maverick. combined milage close to 40MPG.
Be patient, it is worth the wait. I you can’t wait then go get something else. I waited and I am happy.
Not made in the early 2000’s. I think 2021 was the first year.
The Toyota truck will be better, Toyota will see to that!
Oh boy, the Toyota sock puppet is in the house.
I have waited since August when I gave a large deposit to a local Ford dealer. I was aware that it could be a long wait time and I am ok with that. It would be nice if they would be sharing more info with us all. I also was in a car accident just after Christmas 2022 and my SUV was totaled. I bought a 2023 Bolt EUV and am happy with that. When I get the Maverick, we will sell our 2004 Nissan Frontier. We will then own 3 White vehicles and all 3 will be economical and Earth friendly.
Bravo Sandy! Hope you are ok after your accident.
You should be getting update letters every 45 days, if not lean on your dealer to put your email in the system or call ford directly.
Good luck!
Ordered by Cactus Grey XLT Maverick in Sept. 2022 and haven’t heard a word from my dealer..
I can’t wait for another 6months, I’m lookin at the new 2023 Prius…Your gonna lose me Ford….
I got my first 2022 in April of 2022 after a 10 month wait. Second one I ordered Jan of 2022. 3 days before they closed orders. Got 8 emails since ordered, stating they are working on getting my 2023 asap. But no build date yet. Both were XLT Hybrids.
I am thoroughly confused by dates ordered in these emails. My order for the XLT hybrid was OCT 2022. So, when will I likely receive this vehicle?
