Next-Gen Ford Ranger A Women’s World Car of the Year Winner

Almost exactly one year ago, the Ford Mustang Mach-E made the cut as a finalist for the Women’s World Car of the Year Award (WWCOTY) after topping the “large car” category. Now, the 2023 WWCOTY category winners have been announced, and yet another Blue Oval model has secured a spot as a finalist – the next-generation Ford Ranger, which was voted as the “Best 4×4 & Pickup” by judges.

A group of 63 women from five continents and 45 countries voted to determine the winners of these individual categories in what is the only all-female jury in the automotive industry. Those judges evaluate new vehicles based on six categories – safety, driving, comfort, technology, design, efficiency, impact on the environment, and value for money. Once the votes were tallied, the Ford Ranger came out on top for a number of reasons. “This is a reliable, stylish, and charismatic pickup,” the judges wrote. “It moves with ease over any terrain. It’s as efficient as an off-roader, but more practical thanks to its cargo box.”

“The all-new Ranger is our toughest and smartest yet, packed with innovative design and engineering from our teams around the world, and is sold in over 180 countries,” said Liz Pelling, communications lead, Ford Pro, Europe. “Thank you to the Women’s World Car of the Year jury for this award, which recognizes Ranger’s global appeal.”

Now, the next-generation Ford Ranger will compete for the ultimate prize – 2023 Women’s World Car of the Year – against the Kia Niro, Jeep Avenger, Citroën C5 X, Nissan X-Trail, and Audi RS3. The winner will be announced at 6am Eastern Time on March 8th, 2023 – which also happens to be International Women’s Day – via the organization’s YouTube channel.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. So there… take that… you Kunkle draggers. Is this the best way to impower women? I would much rather have heard from an international panel of 65 women and 65 men… and then tease out the nuances based on gender. This is all made worse due to the fact so many men completely avoid meaningful discussion with women due to extreme and unhelpful points of view.
I bet I will be the only one that comments on this story…..

  2. It would have been better to evaluate if women could have assessed visibility, reach the pedals, open the hood and lift items into the bed. I am 5’2 and want to purchase a truck.
