U.S. 2024 Ford Ranger Lariat Spotted With Rear Bumper Steps

The next-generation Ford Ranger has already launched in a host of global markets, though it won’t arrive in the U.S. until later this year for the 2024 model year. As such, we already have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the American version of the new Ranger, though there will ultimately be a few differences worth noting. Regardless, Ford Authority has spotted a handful of U.S.-spec 2024 Ranger models out and about recently, including a completely uncovered SuperCrew, what appears to be a Tremor SuperCab, a Ranger Raptor on the assembly line, a rather salty Ranger Raptor sitting in a parking lot, and a four-wheel drive XLT with black trim. Now, Ford Authority has spotted this U.S.-market 2024 Ford Ranger Lariat driving around fully uncovered, too.

This 2024 Ford Ranger Lariat may be equipped with the FX4 Off-Road Package, since it looks quite a bit different than the Lariat model that was spotted just a couple of weeks ago, as well as the 360-degree camera, giving the presence of cameras on its side mirrors.

What we do know for sure is that this pickup is equipped with the Blind Sport Information Sytem (BLIS) – which is standard on the Lariat-trimmed Ranger for 2023. This pickup also has a set of rear bumper steps, which is the first time that we’ve seen a U.S.-market Ranger prototype equipped with that particular feature, meaning that it’s likely to be featured in the American lineup.

Otherwise, this 2024 Ford Ranger XLT features the same updated exterior styling as previously-spied prototypes, along with side marker indicators, which are a regulatory requirement in the U.S. Inside the cabin, the next-gen Ranger features a standard 10.1-inch or optional 12-inch infotainment screen, Sync 4 (rather than Sync 3, as is the case with the current model), and a digital instrument cluster.

The new Ranger continues to ride on the Ford T6 platform shared with the sixth-generation Ford Bronco – though it has received some updates. It’s unclear what engines might be available in the 2024 Ford Ranger at this time, but it’s likely that the new pickup will retain the turbocharged Ford 2.3L I-4 EcoBoost as its base powerplant.

As Ford Authority reported back in September 2021, the 2024 Ford Ranger is expected to enter production at the Ford Michigan Assembly Plant in May of 2023.

We’ll have more on the 2024 Ford Ranger soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Ranger news and ongoing Ford news coverage.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. Those “rear bumper steps” are actually in the bedside, not the bumper.

    1. Not according to Ford or what I’ve seen in Australia, they are part of the bumper.

      1. If you blow up the 2nd photo and un-pinch zoom in on the rear, the US-market steel bumper is separate from the step or non-step panel attached to the rear quarter of the box side, seen on other models.
I want to see more photos of a US SuperCrew with a 6 foot box; with or without the step!

  2. Ready to order if Ford would just announce this thing already!!!

  3. First glance looks like a jacked maverick…like the current style more. With a clean slate this is the best they could come up with. Rear steps in the body panels = rust

    1. Have to wait and see, but I would guess they are made of molded plastic. Some models that have been shown have a plain panel there instead of a step.

  4. I gotta admit, the current crop of Ford trucks really aren’t that attractive. This pseudo-futuristic style doesn’t look good at all. I wanna say the Super Duty is the worst offender but the 6G Ranger is a close second. This should have been a Bronco-styled pickup with a fixed roof. It could’ve shared a fascia and common components with Bronco like Tacomas/4Runners and Wranglers/Gladiators. Seems like a missed opportunity to capitalize on the “off-road” trend and make a recognizably American small pickup.

    1. That would be because they’re not a small American pick up, they’re actually an Australian “ute” but designed to sell in nearly 200 countries around the world rather than just Canada, North and South America as per the mavericks and F trucks.

      1. I always considered a UTE to be a car chassis based 2-Dr pickup.

David, is there a more expansive definition including smaller pickup trucks that I’m unaware of?

        1. The Aussies & New Zelanders nowadays refer to any vehicle with an open bed (or no bed), and can be driven with a regular driver’s license, as a “ute,” short for utility. The Ford Ranger and the former Ford Falcon Ute are both utes in informal language, but the Falcon was officially a “Coupe Utility.” In North America, common practice was to call car-based trucks by their model name; like Ranchero or El Camino; they weren’t called pickups, whereas Rangers and F-150s could be.

    2. The new superduty looks great reminds me of some of the older Ford trucks really like it. Hope the new F150 2024 adapts the look of the new superduty.

      1. You and I are probably the only ones liking the new SD styling. Lots of negative comments when revealed.

  6. Beautifully Ranger !! ,it is the same as the international version , only it lost the metal front bumper…

  7. How big’s the fuel tank? That’s been a deal-killer for me with current version.

  8. If they don’t offer a hybrid model, they will be missing a massive opportunity. Next year the Honda Ridgeline goes hybrid, and right now the Ranger is a complete dog in the market, with collapsing sales. If they wimp out on the Ranger, Ford is going to slowly die.

Hackett was the prez of Ford, and he brought forth the Bronco, and the Maverick, both smash hits. If the upcoming Ranger is as boring as it looks, that’s a sign that Farley is an doofus, and that Ford will go bankrupt. Obviously it needs a hybrid option, with a nice big gas tank so that people who really need mileage can get it.

  9. The gray front end treatment on this Lariat helps for sure (compared to the XL or XLT), but a separate bumper like the Raptor version looks soooo much better. Overall design is a C-, the current gen, aged is better looking….

  10. The step BTW is kinda funny. It’s Ford’s way of saying “look, we engineered a step for the back of or truck that’s not on the bumper like GM (or before GM, Nissan had the bumper steps on their Xterra as GM guy’s seem to forget as they gloat GM’s “great innovation) Yet Ford totally used the “Nissan” bumper step and GM front bed step on the new SuperDuty. So why this for the Ranger????
