2020 Ford Ranger Still A Solid Bet As Used Pickup

In recent weeks, a number of FoMoCo models have earned praise from Consumer Reports, including the Lincoln MKZ sedan, Lincoln Corsair crossover, and Ford Edge crossover, all of which made the cut as three of the most reliable three-year-old models on the used vehicle market. The Ford Ranger is no stranger to receiving recognition either, having previously earned a 2022 Best CPO Value award from Vincentric, as well as ranking among CR‘s most reliable three-year-old pickups. Now, we have yet another accolade to add to that list, as the 2020 Ford Ranger – specifically – has made the cut as one of that organization’s most reliable vehicles yet again.

To make this particular list, vehicles must have performed admirably in Consumer Reports‘ road tests and present above-average reliability, which is determined by taking a glance at the company’s owner survey data. As CR points out, used vehicles such as the 2020 Ford Ranger are also a solid value when compared to new, full-size trucks, which is an added benefit on top of reliability for those in the market.

The 2020 Ford Ranger earned an above average reliability rating from Consumer Reports members, though the organization also praised it for its solid fuel economy ratings, performance, easy-to-use controls, and an abundance of available safety features. Not so high on its list were a stiff and choppy ride, clumsy handling, and a noisy engine.

In terms of specific problem areas, shoppers should be on the lookout for the more common owner-reported ones – a list that includes the blower fan motor, slipping transmissions, and body hardware, which includes things like locks, latches, and window controls. The current-gen Ranger has also been subjected to four recalls, meaning that potential buyers should do their homework – as always – before picking up a used example of the mid-sizer.

We’ll have more on the Ranger soon, so be sure to subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Ranger news and continuous Ford news coverage.

  1. I wish people could stop buying new cars and trucks for at least a month. Dealers have screwed everyone and to have them have metal rust on their lots from a buyers strike would be great. But alas the American consumers are sheep.
