The 2024 Ford F-150 has yet to be officially revealed, but the automaker is currently hard at work evaluating the pickup ahead of production. Apparently, those evaluations have recently involved pitting the refreshed pickup against one of its main rivals, as new photos indicate that it has a Chevy Silverado High Country on hand to compare against the truck. Additionally, a Ford Expedition Platinum and F-150 Lightning Platinum were among the group as well.
Based on reports from the photographers, the team hanging with the 2024 Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado High Country, Expedition Platinum, and F-150 Lightning Platinum spent a decent amount of time around the Silverado’s rear, which potentially means they were evaluating how that truck’s Multi-Flex Tailgate operates in preparation to introduce a direct rival to the tailgate with the refreshed truck. Ford Authority exclusively reported on the automaker’s efforts to engineer its own multifunction tailgate back in 2020, a report that was backed up by photos of the tailgate. Since then, patents related to it have surfaced, and shots of other 2024 Ford F-150 prototypes have shown heavy camo around the area, indicating that big changes may be afoot.
Aside from the tailgate, there are plenty of other reasons why Ford employees may want to compare the 2024 Ford F-150 against the latest Chevy Silverado High Country. For starters, the refreshed pickup boasts a configurable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a new 13.4-inch infotainment system. Based on previous photos, the F-150 is set to either feature a thoroughly revamped Sync 4 infotainment system or Google’s Android-based operating system, meaning it would compete directly against the Google Built-In System that is spreading throughout GM’s lineup.
Other changes the 2024 Ford F-150 will introduce consist of a new infotainment screens, including a portrait-oriented setup not unlike the Lightning, and more 22-inch wheel offerings. It is currently unclear if the lineup will get updated powertrains or any additional variants other than what is already offered.
