Ford F-Series Theft Epidemic Reaches Southwest Florida

The Ford F-Series line of pickups has historically remained at or near the top of the list of the most stolen vehicles in the U.S. on an annual basis, though that epidemic has reached other countries in recent years as well. Last year, a rash of Ford F-Series thefts ravaged the Detroit area, taking a toll on owners in that particular area, with skyrocketing catalytic converter theft adding yet another potentially expensive inconvenience for those folks, too. Now, this Ford F-Series theft epidemic has also reached Southwest Florida, according to Wink News.

On a single night recently, thieves made off with multiple Ford F-Series trucks in and around Cape Corral, both of them Ford F-350 Super Duty pickups that are, unfortunately, too large to fit in their owners’ garages. One of those pickups – owned by Michelle Pomerleau – was spotted on a nearby security camera as two thieves made off with it in the middle of the night, but unfortunately, they haven’t been able to locate it yet.

That very same night, just two blocks away, another F-350 was also stolen, which has local residents like fellow Super Duty owner Kelly Byers on edge. “We’ve got the less expensive vehicle parked behind the more expensive one,” Byers said. He also added that he uses the FordPass app to track his truck’s location, which is something that Pomerleau unfortunately didn’t set up prior to her truck’s theft.

“I went on the SunPass thing because it had a SunPass to see if it had left the Cape and as of yesterday, I didn’t see that,” Pomerleau said. In addition to activating FordPass and using it to track a vehicle’s location, police also suggest that owners pick up a GPS tracking device – many of which can be purchased for less than $100 – as a way to help recover stolen vehicles, too.

  1. I ordered a 2023 F150 XLT with the Black Appearance package in January of 2023 and was told the Black Appearance package may be discontinued. Does this mean I will not be able to get this on the truck I ordered ?

  2. Ask your dealer to look up your order. If you were able to place the “order” as you say .. im sure Ford will honor your request.
