The various auction sites across the web are never short on interesting and unique Ford Mustang models, with a number of them popping up for sale in recent months. That list includes a 2012 Shelby GT500 convertible, a 2014 Hertz Penske GT, and a 2013 GT Roush Stage 3 coupe, to name just a few. Now, this very interesting 2011 Ford Mustang GT has emerged for sale at Bring a Trailer, and it’s a very unique, former SEMA star built by the folks at Galpin Auto Sports, to boot.
Created especially for the 2010 SEMA show, this 2011 Ford Mustang GT has only accumulated 860 miles over the past decade plus, and it’s easily one of the coolest custom S197-gen pony cars we’ve ever seen. Its unique burnt orange paint covers a heavily customized body with one particularly interesting feature – a power-operated retractable hardtop – along with unique ground effects, a rear spoiler, tinted lighting, and 20-inch Halibrand-style wheels wrapped with Nitto NT555 Extreme ZR tires.
As for the interior, Galpin left that largely alone, which means that this particular Mustang is fitted with auxiliary gauges and black leather seating – albeit with contrasting orange stitching – along with factory goodies like automatic climate control, the Shaker 500 audio system, and a touchscreen.
Mechanically speaking, this 2011 Ford Mustang GT features a Ford Racing suspension and electronic power-assisted steering underneath, along with four-wheel power disc brakes. Power comes from the stock, naturally-aspirated Ford 5.0L V8 Coyote engine, which was originally rated to produce 412 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. That power flows to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission and a 3.15-geared limited-slip differential.
For those that appreciate the wind-in-the-hair enjoyment of a convertible but don’t want the noise and other inconveniences associated with it, this retractable hardtop Mustang is the perfect compromise, without a doubt. However, the fact that it’s also a famous former show car should also help its case at auction, too.
