Lincoln Aviator Among 2023 Best Resale Value Award Winners

Virtually all used vehicles are worth a pretty penny these days after prices have soared to new record heights for the better part of three years now, but as one might imagine, some have benefitted more than others. That list includes the Ford Maverick compact pickup, the Ford Bronco SUV, Ford F-150 Lightning EV pickup, and Ford Mustang Mach-E all-electric crossover, all of which were recently recognized by Kelley Blue Book as 2023 Best Resale Value Award winners. Now, we have yet another Blue Oval product to add to that list – the Lincoln Aviator.

The Lincoln Aviator finished outside of the overall top ten on this particular list, but it did top the three-row luxury mid-size SUV segment, which is very notable, nonetheless. The 2023 Aviator accomplished that by presenting new vehicle shoppers with an estimated five-year resale value that’s 46.5 percent of its original MSRP, beating out all of its rivals in that space and bringing home this particular honor.

To determine its annual Best Resale Value Award winners, Kelley Blue Book leans on data from its Official Residual Value Guide. A group of analysts determine these figures by first analyzing millions of transactions, and from there, the models that have the highest five-year residual values – as expressed by a percentage of their original MSRP – are the official winners.

This data is certainly valuable for new vehicle shoppers, as depreciation is typically among the most overlooked – and one of the largest – expenses individuals face in the first five years of ownership. For example, the average new 2023 model year vehicle will retain around 45 percent of its original value, according to KBB, but this year’s top 10 models are projected to retain around 60 percent of their MSRP  in the first five years of ownership, which can easily equate to thousands of dollars over that time span.
