The Xfinity Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 18th was not short on drama, but all things considered, the NASCAR Ford teams had a relatively quiet night.
Riley Herbst, driver of the No. 98 Mustang, was the best of all The Blue Oval teams. While the night was all about the No. 21 Chevy Camaro of Austin Hill, Herbst guided the No. 98 Mustang to the lead twice, ultimately leading 11 laps. However, he just couldn’t find his groove at the end of the race, and crossed the line in fifth – after starting in fifth place as well. He was the only Ford to lead any laps, though.
Meanwhile, Ryan Sieg, driver of the No. 39 Mustang, brought it home in 11th, followed by the No. 00 Mustang of Cole Custer in 12th. The No. 35 Mustang of Patrick Emerling was the only other NASCAR Ford team to finish in the top 20, having secured an 18th-place result.
Overall, 12 caution periods slowed the field for 68 laps, although every Blue Oval racer managed to at least cross the finish line and avoid DNFs. Hill took the No. 21 Camaro to Victory Lane for the third time in the Xfinity Series this year, surviving a dramatic last-lap crash to win.
