Fans of the last-gen Ford Ranger – the compact version of that pickup before it grew into the mid-size segment – have had plenty of nice, low-mile examples to choose from on the used vehicle market recently, including a 41k-mile 2001 Flareside, a 14k-mile 1999 pickup, a 2k-mile 2003 Ranger Edge, and a lifted 2001 model, to name just a few. Now, yet another opportunity has presented itself in the form of this very clean 64k-mile 2002 Ford Ranger that is currently up for auction at Cars & Bids.
Finished in Oxford White and the XLT trim, this 2002 Ford Ranger looks no worse for wear and has lived in California its entire life, with no accidents or other damage to report. Aside from the typical wear such as minor scratches, dents, and chips, it’s in pretty immaculate condition, which is unusual in today’s world. After all, these were cheap modes of transportation back in their heyday, and people tended to treat them as such.
That certainly isn’t the case here, as this particular pickup is in great condition for any vehicle with some miles on the clock, and that also goes for the inside, where the Medium Prairie Tan interior has some creases in the driver’s side seat cushion and wear on the center stack plastics, but is in otherwise excellent shape.
Power for this 2002 Ford Ranger comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 3.0L V6 Vulcan engine, which was originally rated to produce 146 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. That flows to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission, and as one might imagine, its maintenance history has been well documented, meaning that it likely has many years of faithful service ahead.
While some of the other Rangers we’ve featured in recent months are almost too nice to drive, that isn’t the case here – rather, this is the perfect truck for someone that just wants an affordable, basic hauler – just like The Blue Oval used to make them, though the Ford Maverick fills that particular segment today.
