2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Revealed As Super Duty Tremor Rival

Back in 2021, GM revealed the all-new 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2, a more off-road-focused version of that particular pickup, albeit one that fell just a bit short of the capability of the Ford F-150 Raptor which – at the time – was also more expensive. Then, the more hardcore 2023 Silverado ZR2 Bison debuted that somewhat bridges the gap between the F-150 Tremor and F-150 Raptor with a host of aftermarket equipment and a unique appearance. Now, GM has extended this rugged treatment to its heavy-duty line of pickups with the first-ever 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 HD – a proper Ford Super Duty Tremor rival.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 HD – which is also available in a Bison variant like its lighter-duty brethren – is offered exclusively in 2500 Crew Cab configuration, with two engine options – either GM’s 6.6L gas V8 or the turbocharged 6.6L Duramax diesel, offering up a max payload of 3,397 pounds and a max towing capacity of 18,500 pounds.

In terms of styling, the HD ZR2 features a unique front grille with the automaker’s “flow-tie” emblem, wheel well moldings with integrated mud guards, ZR2 badging, and 1.5 inches of additional ground clearance at both ends. The truck rolls on a set of 18×9-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory M/T tires, with suspension enhancements including new upper and lower control arms, steering knuckles, Multimatic DSSV Dampers, a rear e-locker, a larger steel transfer case skid plate, and a front aluminum skid plate, along with a unique Off-Road driving mode.

Stepping up to the HD ZR2 Bison nets buyers an array of upgrades from American Expedition Vehicles, including its gloss black 18-inch wheels, stamped-steel front and rear bumpers with recovery points and room for a winch, as well as stamped-steel skid plates for the front, steering rack, exhaust, and transfer case. Additionally, the Bison gets its own unique badging and embroidery for the interior.

Both the 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 HD and ZR2 HD Bison are scheduled to enter production at GM’s Flint Assembly plant this summer, though pricing won’t be announced until we get a bit closer to that launch.
