With Ford committed to Australia and expanding its lineup there in the coming years, we’ve seen both the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Ford F-150 confirmed for that particular country in recent months, though the Ford Escape will be discontinued there later this year. However, while The Blue Oval still has some work to do in terms of filling out its electrified lineup in Australia, it seems as if the Ford F-150 Lighting won’t be heading Down Under, according to Car Expert.
This bit of news was confirmed by Ford Australia boss Andrew Birkic, who noted that The Blue Oval is still working on perfecting its right-hand drive ICE F-150 conversions – which are being completed by a company called RMA – before it considers adding the Ford F-150 Lightning to its Australian lineup. That possibility remains on its “wish list,” according to Birkic, though it’s unlikely to happen before the end of 2024.
Ford is slated to launch five electrified models in Australia by 2024, but the final piece of that puzzle will be the forthcoming Puma EV, rather than the Ford F-150 Lightning, as some had speculated previously. Meanwhile, Ford is still working to satisfy demand for the EV pickup in the U.S. following a battery issue that prompted a production shutdown earlier this year.
With the Escape PHEV on its way out in Australia, that leaves the Ford E-Transit, E-Transit Custom, Mustang Mach-E, and Puma EV as the country’s lone electrified offerings, though that figures to change in the near future as the automaker continues to build out its portfolio with an eye toward producing 600k EVs worldwide each year by 2024, and two million annually by 2026 following a $50 billion dollar investment.
