Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for an in-vehicle health and wellness system, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on October 8th, 2021, published on April 13th, 2023, and assigned serial number 0111974.
The Ford Authority Take
In recent months, Ford has filed patents for both an in-vehicle automated triage nurse system and an occupant health protection system, each of which aims to detect medical emergencies or conditions and/or provide help in the event of an emergency. Now, that trend continues with this newly filed Ford patent, which outlines an idea for an in-vehicle health and wellness system.
The purpose behind this new Ford patent is a bit more specific, however, as it specifically centers around detecting the presence of airborne micro-particles and bacterial pathogens that could pose a risk to our health. As the patent points out, these types of things are more concerning in a time when ride sharing and car rentals are on the rise, though there’s currently no standard way to prevent the spread of these particles and pathogens.
Thus, this proposed in-vehicle health and wellness system aims to provide a solution by detecting if these materials are present in a vehicle, as well as whether or not there’s a significant enough quantity to pose a problem. If that’s the case, the system could prevent the vehicle from being rented to or shared by another individual, or if not, it would present the vehicle with credentials declaring it free of particles and pathogens, and then assign it to a user.
This is certainly an interesting idea, and one that has merit, particularly following the years-long COVID-19 pandemic, when it would have certainly helped prevent it from spreading in one manner. As such, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this or something similar come to fruition in the future.
