The Ford Authority Take
Ford has filed a bevy of patents in recent months that use a vehicle’s audio system for all sorts of reasons, including for a vehicular pest repellent system, an echo cancellation system, a vehicle sound emission control system, and a baby calming system. Now, this newly filed patent keeps that trend going by introducing an idea for a multi-vehicle sound system that could essentially pair the audio systems of multiple vehicles together, creating a bit of an impromptu, mobile surround sound system.
The system depicted in this Ford patent would function essentially the way one might assume – by connecting the audio systems of multiple vehicles together wirelessly, whether that be by using two vehicles for a simple stereo setup, or several of them, creating something of a surround sound effect. As one might imagine, the system could automatically adjust these settings based on how many vehicles are participating in the party.
What makes this particular Ford patent even more interesting is that it also has provisions for autonomous vehicles, and could be able to determine the desired location one might want them to be parked, then automatically move themselves to those locations before starting up the sound show, opening up the windows, doors, or sunroof/convertible top to better project those tunes.
The potential uses for such technology include not only the ability to host a party anywhere one might choose – whether that be in a neighborhood or out in the woods somewhere – but also providing sound for an outdoor cinema on movie night, which sounds like a pretty cool idea if you ask us.
